About the scholarship system

Scholarship programs exist to alleviate the burden of tuition and living expenses for students who have difficulty continuing their studies due to financial circumstances, and to help them establish a stable foundation for a fulfilling student life.

Scholarship system and types

New higher education support system (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan Student Services Organization)

This system combines the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "tuition fee reduction" and the provision of "grant-type scholarships" by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).

The amount of the grant (monthly) and the percentage of tuition fee reduction will be determined for each category based on household income requirements and other criteria.

There is an upper limit to the amount of tuition fee reductions and exemptions set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)

There are two types of loans: "grant-type" loans that generally do not need to be repaid, and "loan-type" loans (interest-free/interest-bearing) that do need to be repaid.
Regular recruitment takes place twice a year, in spring (April) and autumn (September).
For details on eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and more, please refer to the scholarship information digest.

Applications for sudden changes in household finances, emergency support, and short-term employment can be made at any time. Please contact the Student Affairs Division, Window 3.

Scholarships from local governments and various organizations (foundations established by private companies, etc.)

Scholarship programs offered by local governments and various organizations vary in terms of application periods, types of grants or loans, and amounts. Organizations that request applications from the university will post notices on the scholarship bulletin board in front of the Student Affairs Office on the first floor of the main building.

For university-recommended scholarships (with a unified application and internal selection process in April), you must submit a "Scholarship Application Form" (submission deadline: April 15th).

Among the scholarships offered through the general application process, there are two types: those applied for through the university and those applied for directly by the student without going through the university. If you require a letter of recommendation from the university (with the president's seal), please contact the Student Affairs Office.

You can search for scholarship repayment support systems implemented by local governments.
